Jörg Ott (b. 1969) is interested in Internet-based (mobile) communication systems and services. His research focus is on architectures, protocols and applications for mobile systems. His interests also include measuring, modeling, analyzing and predicting network characteristics and application performance and preserving user privacy. One application area of his work is extending the reach of the Internet to remote areas (digitization).
Ott studied computer science at TU Berlin and industrial engineering at TFH Berlin. He received his PhD in engineering (Dr.-Ing.) in 1997 from TU Berlin and then continued his career as an assistant professor at the University of Bremen. In 2005 he joined Helsinki University of Technology (HUT) – as of 2010 Aalto University – where, as professor for networking technology, he set up a research unit focusing on networked services and software at the School of Electrical Engineering. Since 2015 he has been a professor at TUM where he holds the newly established Chair for Connected Mobility. He has co-founded four companies (1998, 2007, 2013, 2014) and has been an active contributor to the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) since 1993.
