Having studied at TUM, Technion – Israel Institute of Technology (Haifa, Israel) and École Polytechnique (Paris, France), Niclas is a trained engineer and works as a doctoral researcher and group lead at TUM’s Chair of Materials Handling, Material Flow, Logistics led by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Johannes Fottner. In his research, he focuses on pathways to a Circular Economy, particularly on the transformation of incumbent manufacturing firms from linear production to circularity.
Finishing his studies in 2019/2020, Niclas was one of the early pilot candidates of the then not yet officially founded TUM Entrepreneurial Masterclass. Contributing to the concept development of the program together with other peers and in close exchange with Holger Patzelt and Helmut Schönenberger, he later on became the Masterclass’s founding program manager in mid 2020. In the sense of today’s Entrepreneurship Support Track, his master thesis “Entrepreneurial Opportunities and University Action Fields of Circular Economy” contributed to TUM and UnternehmerTUM further embracing the concept of Circular Economy, leading to the foundation of CirculaTUM, a university-wide research alliance, closely related to the TUM Venture Labs.
Before taking up his current roles as program manager and research associate, Niclas gained experiences in management consulting, the automative industry, TUM’s presidential staff and in a medium-sized manufaturing company as executive assistant to the CEO. Niclas holds an M.Sc. in mechanical engineering and management and is alumnus of the German National Academic Foundation (Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes) and the Bavarian Elite Academy. Beyond German and English, Niclas is also fluent in French and Italian.
In his free time, Niclas loves to spend time in the mountains or at the lakes around Munich.
